On a recent visit to Fashion Central in Calgary to find an alterationist for both myself and my clients, I came across a great little vintage pop-up store, A Vintage Collective. A Vintage Collective recently held an event called A Dress to Remember at Art Central and is now a fantastic pop-up shop on the lower level of Fashion Central. It is a collective of women-owned businesses: Bonton Vintage, Patina Design Works & Vintage Bliss.
There are a lot of fantastic, mint condition pieces in the shop. I easily could have walked away with at least 5 things. Some things that caught my eye were a 1950′s black and white tweed winter coat with quarter sleeves, a vintage hearts charm bracelet, a 1930′s rust coloured gown with the most amazing front draped waist panel, a cute little boxy black knit hat that the lady at the store said was Japanese in origin and the prettiest 1950′s sunny yellow silk prom dress. All of the pieces were clean, organized and labelled clearly, which is important in my books. This makes shopping for vintage that much easier, it doesn’t matter if you are a novice or a seasoned-pro.
I hope A Vintage Collective does well while they are in their current location. Small independent businesses like this need to be supported, especially in Calgary, where they are few and far between.
